How long will you take  to amortize the PVC windows investition            
             After trials and tests carried out in recent years, it is concluded that over 33% of energy consumed for domestic heating is lost through windows. A simple calculation shows that by replacing old windows with quality PVC windows (with a thermal  transfer coefficient below 1.1 W/m²K ) you  can amortize the investition in 4-5 ( low heating costs, no  more dyeing).  Besides the financial aspects it is important also to remark the sound insulation comfort, the good look and the easy maintenance.


  Condensation,   a problem?

 Q : It is  normal for windows to make condensation?

R : Not. It is not normal and it is a problem which has to be solved, otherwise appear other inconveniences (mushrooms, mold). The reasons why the condensation can occur are:

             1  Because of poorly executed or poorly fitted windows. Although all aluminum and PVC windows look good from outside, not all of them are properly functional. Thus we can distinguish several types of PVC  profiles: with two, three, four, five or more chambers. Depending on the   profiles brand, they may behave differently over time, those of inferior quality often presenting after 3-4 years the phenomenon of color change (yellowing) or cracking.  The thermal insulated glass may be of several qualities: with air between sheets of glass with a  transfer coefficient of 2.8 W / m² * K. This type of double glazing is old and because of the high thermal transfer it forms condensation. We recommend the choosing of a double glazing with argon and low emissivity (Low-E), which has a transfer coefficient lower than 1.0 W / m² * K. Multipoint hardware is also important and helps to seal windows against noise and wind currents. The gaskets  and the continuously foam insulation are also important. The window frame is not recommended to be put over masonry  more than 20-25mm.

             2. Due to incorrect operation of windows. Compared to wood windows, PVC windows are more tight. The exchanges of air consumed from the room is not done by itself.  Due to the breathing, cooking, shower or other daily activities, the water vapors are sent out; the used air reaches saturation and water vapors condenses on cold parties, windows or walls. To remove condensation , all the rooms will be aerated by opening all windows at once, with the doors opened between rooms, to produce good ventilation (current). This operation must be done for 5-6 minutes, twice daily.

· Condensation can occur in poorly heated rooms. PVC windows do not produce heat,  only isolate. If the temperature inside the room is below 19 to 20 ° C, this environment  is favorable for  mold and fungus development in the presence of moisture (condensation). The problem is solved by heating the rooms 21 to 23 ° C and by their ventilation.

· After painted or in any other situation where the room humidity exceeds 50-55%

CONCLUSION: - If condensation appears, its reason must be discovered; in this way we finally will be able to eliminate its consequences (condensation, mold, etc.).



What to chose: PVC or Aluminiu ?      

             It is a question at which, unfortunately, some manufacturers of PVC joinery give response influenced by what they can offer, not taking into consideration  the customer  needs. The quality PVC windows are ideal for outside, because of their thermal  transfer coefficient <k>, which is better even than for the aluminum with thermal break. Also the price of PVC windows is better than of those of aluminum with thermal break.   

             Aluminum is, however, suits better for  the interior doors and windows , which are also lighter, more reliable and cheaper than PVC.  Aluminum has also priority  in construction of large facades (curtain walls), where due to its stability and rigidity is used in 96% of cases. In conclusion, each of the two materials is better, depending on its purpose use: Aluminum for  curtain walls and for  inside and PVC for  external joinery.
